On Saturday, December 9th, the men's basketball team closed out a tight game against a resilient Schenectady Royals squad 68-65. With the game tied at 63 late in the game, RaeQuan Scott was fouled attempting a three pointer and made two of his three free throws putting the Red Barons on top 65-63. Schenectady CCC would stay aggressive and attacked the rim, drawing a foul with 8 seconds to go, after making both free throws the game was again tied, 65-65. After receiving the inbounds pass, RaeQuan Scott played hero by hitting the go ahead with 3 with 2 seconds left, giving CCC the lead 68-65. A last chance shot by Royals was no good and Corning improved to 5-4 with the win. Christian Simmons poured in 16 points and grabbed 15 boards for the double-double, Scott finished with 14 points and 10 assists for his first double-double of the year, and Tamar Jackson and Jon Ward each scored 12 for the home team.
In the second game of the men's back to back weekend home-stand, the Red Barons faced Columbia-Greene CC on Wayne Kenner court. Again, Corning prevailed for the second time in two days by defeating the Twins, 100-76. The offensive output was propelled by ten players producing points and five players hitting double figures. Christian Simmons was the leading scorer for the second game in a row, netting 20 points, Tamar Jackson added to his stellar weekend by recording a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Red Barons ended first semester on a high note taking 3 of their last 4 games to finish 6-4 overall, the team returns to the hardwood on January 11th at Cayuga CC.
