Corning Falls In Regional Final Four; Simmons Receives Regional Honors

The Corning Red Barons men's basketball team lost to Herkimer College 84-75 in the Regional Final Four, ending their season at 18-8. The Red Barons started slow as they started falling behind early after missed shots and turnovers. Five minutes before halftime Corning faced a 22 point deficit before they started a rally of their own, which ended with a Jahlil Nougues 3 point basket that cut the halftime lead for Herkimer to 12 points. The second half did not go Coring's way as the team was down double digits for most of the game before mounting and inspiring comeback as they cut the lead to just 7 points with a 90 seconds to go. Herkimer answered with a 3 point basket late in the shot clock effectively ending the potential for an exciting final minute of play. Sophomores Christian Simmons and Jon Ward both finished their Corning career with 21 points a piece, Jahlil Nougues played his best game as Red Baron adding 17 points on 4 made 3 point field goals and adding 10 assists for his first career double-double. The Red Barons ended their season at 18-8 overall, 17-7 in regional play, and tied for 1st place in the Mid-State Athletic Conference Regular season standings at 10-2.  

Simmons received multiple honors for his efforts this season including scoring his 1000th career point, ending with 1,011 for his career. Christian was also named to the All-Region 1st team as he led all of Region III in points/game with 23.8 and finished second in Region III in rebounds/game with 10.6. As a result of his great player against Herkimer College, Christian was also named to the All-Tournament team for the NJCAA Region III as well.
