The Corning softball team hosted Jefferson CC on the turf on a very cold and windy day on Spencer Hill. Corning was able to manage the sweep, even after a shaky defensive display in game two. Corning won game one 21-4 and won the nightcap 14-13.
Game one saw Rhilea Chabot earn the win and Leigha Jones pitched two strong innings in relief. The duo held Jefferson to five hits. Racheal Bonning was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's while Michele Dinicola was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's, Sam Hauck was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's, Leigha Jones was 3 for 4 with a single, double and triple with 3 RBI's, Alana Eaton was 3 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI's and Yvonne Hartridge was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's. Danielle Dille was the other Red Barons with a multi-hit game going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's.
In the nightcap, the Corning defense was very sloppy, committing six errors that led to 8 unearned runs. It was the offense that stole the show and came up big late in the game. Down six runs entering the 5th inning, the Corning bats came to life and rattled off 7 runs to take the lead and earn the win. With two runners on and two outs, Michele Dinicola hit a three-run blast to centerfield to tie the game. Leigha Jones followed and hit a bomb to centerfield to put Corning up one. Jones also earned the win on the mound allowing 5 hits. Laura Tryon hit a three-run homerun in the first inning, the first of her collegiate career.
Corning travels next week down South for a three-day roadtrip.
