The Corning Red Barons volleyball team improved their early season record with two wins on Sunday, September 14th at Onondaga Community College.
Corning faced Jamestown first, taking the match in 3 sets. Leah Earle and Maggie McClaren lead the team's offense with 9 kills apiece. Meleah Kohberger ran the court with 31 assists and 4 service aces. Brea Jorritsma and Adrianna Calbi held on defense with 10 and 13 digs respectively. At the net, Adrianna Calbi contributed 2 solo blocks followed by Kayla Bellefontaine with 1 solo and 1 block assist.
In match two the Red Barons triumphed over Genesee in 5 sets, after a loss to the Cougars earlier in the week. Lindsay Stratton had 9 kills followed by Maggie McClaren, Leah Earle, and Maddy Jones, each contributing 7 kills on offense. Meleah Kohberger secured 34 assists and 19 digs. The Red Barons defense shined especially bright with 6 players in double digits digs; Leah Earle and Brea Jorritsma tallied 28 and 21 digs throughout the match. Maggie McClaren took charge at the net with 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists on defense.
Corning will travel to Finger Lakes Community College on Tuesday 9/16 for their next conference match.
